My dog, Alexa
I love working as a therapist. I enjoy thinking critically about life, connecting with people, and I have always felt emotions deeply. I am grateful for the unique opportunity to do all of those things while engaging in meaningful relationships and rich conversations. I appreciate that being a therapist asks me to practice presence and curiosity each time I show up. For me, being in a state of presence and curiosity are major components of living a meaningful (and actually enjoyable) life. I think it’s very cool that I get to practice these values, individually and with clients, every week.
I found my way to this work through my time at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, though I think the possibility of being a therapist was bopping around in my mind since I was a very young adult. Prior to working in private practice, I worked at a group therapy practice specializing in eating disorders/disordered eating, largely supporting the LGBTQ+ community. I also supported people at the end of life and their families in navigating grief, caregiving, end of life decisions, and meeting basic needs as a hospice social worker. Additionally, I’ve worked with a variety of organizations in the Austin community, including YWCA Austin, Family Eldercare, Girls Empowerment Network, and Communities In Schools.
Before becoming a therapist, I studied Voice and Music Education. I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and have lived in Ithaca, NY, Austin, TX, and now Charlotte, NC. I love listening to podcasts while cooking, watching my dog simply exist, being at a beach, and enjoying local coffee shops. At the bookstore, you'll find me in the psychology, spirituality, race, gender, or LGBTQ+ section. I love a good memoir, too.
